So you want a Web site?

The key to a successful Web site is communication, so it’s best to set our expectations from the get-go. Read on to see the many stages of the Web design process!

The Brainstorming phase

This is where you and I discuss what you need from your Web site. Some questions we will answer:

  • Are you trying to sell a product, drive customers to your physical business, or showcase your work?
  • What is the meaning you’d like to convey? Are you looking for elegence, whimsy, or somewhere in between? What do those terms mean to you?
  • Do you already have an idea of what you’d like your site to look like? A particular color scheme or layout?
  • Do you want to be able to update the site yourself? Will you require weekly or monthly maintenance?
  • Do you need a domain name or Web hosting?

Once we’ve answered these questions, a 50% deposit is due.

The Design phase: Part I

Now that we’ve decided what your Web site will do, I’ll build a mockup of a design with sample content, and share a screenshot with you. At that point, you can either accept the design or provide feedback for revisions.

The Design phase: Part II

In this stage, I’ll need all of the content you’d like to have on your Web site. I’ll build the site, sending you updates along the way. You can provide feedback at any point, keeping in mind that dramatic changes may impact the cost of the project.

Testing and soft-launch

Once the Web site is coded, I’ll upload the final product to your Web server. This is the time to make any final changes – Is there a typo? Was there something we forgot to include? This is the time to show off your site to family and friends and make sure there’s nothing that our biased eyes didn’t catch.

And.. We’re done!

Once we’ve ironed out any last-minute quirks, we’re done! I’ll invoice you for the remaining 50%, and we’ll ride on into the sunset.
